Breaking News: UFC’s Return to Edmonton Gets a New Main Event

The UFC’s return to Edmonton, Alberta on November 2 has taken an exciting turn with a new main event being announced by UFC CEO Dana White. Former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno is set to square off against rising star Amir Albazi at Rogers Place, in what promises to be a thrilling matchup with potential title implications.

Brandon Moreno, with a UFC record of 9-5-2 and an overall MMA record of 21-8-2, last fought in February when he suffered a close split decision loss to Brandon Royval. Following this defeat, Moreno decided to take a hiatus from competition. However, he is best known for his epic quadrilogy against Deiveson Figueiredo for the flyweight title. Moreno emerged victorious in two out of the four fights, culminating in a stoppage win in January 2023 to regain the title. Unfortunately, his reign was short-lived as he was subsequently dethroned by Alexandre Pantoja.

Amir Albazi, undefeated in the UFC with a record of 5-0 and an overall MMA record of 17-1, will be making his comeback after over a year away from the octagon. Albazi’s last outing saw him secure a split decision victory over Kai Kara-France in June 2023. Originally scheduled to face Moreno in February, Albazi had to withdraw due to a neck injury, paving the way for Royval to step in. Now, fans can look forward to Albazi’s return against a formidable opponent in Moreno.

With the addition of Moreno vs. Albazi as the new main event, the previously scheduled headline bout between Rose Namajunas and Erin Blanchfield has been shifted to the co-main event slot. This change adds even more excitement to an already stacked UFC Fight Night card, which will also feature a heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis and Jhonata Diniz.

The UFC’s return to Edmonton is shaping up to be a must-watch event, with Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi set to deliver a high-stakes showdown in the main event. Fans can expect fireworks in the octagon as these two talented fighters go head-to-head in a battle for supremacy in the flyweight division.
