The 2025 Dakar Rally kicked off with an electrifying atmosphere as Guerlain Chicherit of X-raid Mini secured a stunning victory in the opening stage held in the vast deserts of Saudi Arabia. From the moment the green light flashed, Chicherit demonstrated unmatched speed and ambition aboard the Mini JCW Rally 3.0i. Establishing an early lead exceeding a minute, he set a fierce pace that caught the attention of competitors, especially members of the dominant Toyota contingent. Chicherit’s advantage, however, was not meant to last unchallenged. The fierce competition saw the likes of Lucas Moraes and Saood Variava from Toyota’s factory team and the satellite Overdrive squad close in rapidly.
Despite holding the top position initially, strategic positioning quickly came into play. By the 151km checkpoint, Chicherit’s lead began to falter as Moraes and Variava maneuvered ahead, showcasing the relentless pace the Hilux T1+ drivers were maintaining. As positions shifted rapidly, Martin Prokop in the privateer Jipocar Ford emerged impressive, securing fourth place ahead of Cristina Gutierrez from Dacia Sandriders. Joao Ferreira also made strides, finishing in sixth position for Mini. Meanwhile, former Dakar champion Carlos Sainz demonstrated his experience by overtaking competitors, eventually securing a seventh-place finish despite starting low in the rankings.
